Occasionally when I tell someone that I used airbrush makeup, they will say “wow! you must be a professional”. Well, I do think I do a pretty good job with my airbrushing makeup. I am by no means an expert. I never attended Beauty School. I’ve never taken a class in makeup.
In fact as a teenager, like many people, I did a terrible job with my foundation. I never got terrific results from traditional makeup. When I made the switch to airbrushing makeup, I was a little bit intimidated by it. It’s a machine that sprays on your foundation? I thought I could never really get the hang of it.
But with a little practice, and a little time, and a lot of patience I ended up simplifying my life completely. Airbrushing is no longer just for beauty professionals. An at-home airbrushing makeup system is simple to use, Easy to maintain, and will provide you with movie star quality makeup in only a few minutes.
Don’t Be Intimidated
Many people tell me that they simply could never try airbrushing makeup. When I asked them why they tell me “I don’t have the skills” or “I’ve never really been artistic”. The truth is you don’t have to have qualifications or a creative mind to apply airbrushing makeup.
It merely takes a little getting used to. Once you perfect the technique, your makeup will never look as good as when you use airbrushing makeup. It’s really not as intimidating as it may seem.
Take Your Time
Nobody gets airbrushing right the first time they sit down to do it. The trigger on the gun takes a little testing to get the right pressure. It also takes a couple tries to understand what to keep the spray nozzle from your face.
Don’t rush into it. Practice on a piece of paper or with water before you jump into using your foundation. Once you’ve figured out the correct distance, and pressure to put on the trigger you’ll be airbrushing in no time.
It’s All in the Wrist
It may seem like a super skill when you watch beauty gurus putting on their airbrushing makeup. The truth is it’s all in the wrist. Your wrist needs to be somewhere between relaxed and flexed. This may seem counterintuitive but think of it as perfecting the perfect backswing in tennis.
You don’t get it the first time, but with a little bit of practice and a little bit of patience, you will establish the perfect wrist posture for applying your makeup.
Practice Makes Perfect
Like with all skills you will not get the perfect look the first time. When unboxing your airbrushing kit for the first time, you might be excited that today’s the day you get to establish your new beauty routine.
If you’re new to airbrushing you need to practice a few times before you’re ready to take your new look on the road. Applying foundation is simple but perfecting the contouring may take a little bit of time. It just takes a little bit of practice. Soon enough you will be feeling confident in your airbrushing abilities.
You’ll Never Look Back
Once you get the hang of things, you’ll never go back to traditional makeup. Airbrushing kits are inexpensive these days. Airbrushing makeup costs less over time because you don’t lose any in a brush or a sponge.
Just a few drops of foundation can give you beautiful, even, flawless coverage. I promise you’ll never think of it as only a professional tool again.
