There’s only so much time in the day, and preparing for it should only take up a small percentage. For women, that percentage can sometimes be two or three times longer than it is for men. Because face it, there’s a lot more we have to do to our…well, face.
Morning beauty routines can be an exhaustive and time-consuming experience. I’ve made a list of tips and tricks to help you shorten the time you spend on your beauty routine, be it applying everything in the morning or maintenance during the day.
1. Go Multi-Purpose
Multi-purpose products will cut considerable time out of your routine. The obvious would be 2-in-1 hair care, but you can also find SPF based moisturizers and foundation. That way, you can maintain your skin’s hydration, sun-protection and texture/shade in a single product.
2. Longer-Lasting Cosmetics
This point can be hard to justify, as these products are often more expensive than what you might normally use.
However, think about it – if you have a lipstick that lasts a full day, then you’re not going to have to reapply it twice, so it should last twice as long. This goes for all other extra-durable product you use daily, too.
3. Permanent Makeup
Take number 2 even further with permanent makeup. Micropigmentation is a process very similar to tattooing, where shade and shape are added to the skin to represent lipstick, eyeliner or, very commonly, eyebrows.
This is the ultimate form of convenience and saving time because you don’t have to worry about application or removal until it eventually fades. However, even though permanent makeup often lasts for years, it also takes a chunk out of your savings.
4. Stay Simple
If you’re not going to a swanky party or a date, or you’re simply very pressed for time, try keeping it simple. Eyeliner, mascara, a slash of lipstick, a little under-eye concealer, and bam! You’re ready for the day.
While some of us may not consider that an option, you’d be surprised by how much difference such a minimal routine can make.
5. Be Careful With Mascara/Eyeliner
My biggest time-waster is having to clean up and reapply my mascara or liquid eyeliner. I don’t have the steadiest hands, so I often make mistakes, but I’ve also learned a few things.
Firstly, when applying mascara, always attend to the lower lashes first. Otherwise, it can be easy to extend your upper eyelashes and smear newly applied mascara on your brow bone. Always keep Q-tips and makeup remover at hand and remove as fast as possible.
6. Long-Term Hair Removal
Although it’s expensive, permanent or even semi-permanent hair removal methods can be a life-saver. Or a time-saver at least. Imagine never having to shave your legs or armpits again.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are fantastically efficient. If that is too expensive, even professional waxing will save you time as the effects always last longer than shaving.
7. Keep It Neat
Me and most of my girlfriends have the same problem – we lose our makeup. How many times have you spent 20 minutes turning your bedroom upside down because you can’t find your favorite lipstick?
Try keeping all of your products in the same place. An organized makeup holder is essential for keeping your routine on schedule.
8. Use Primer
It always amazes me that people don’t use this product. If you don’t want to buy a whole new set of longer lasting products, primer is key. One quick layer in the morning will allow you to apply your foundation quickly and smoothly. It also ensures that anything you put over it will stay on for the whole day.
My favorite product that helps me out with speeding up my morning beauty routine is Rock Candy Beauty’s setting mist. It’s a setting spray that doubles as a primer, so I can ensure my makeup stays on – plus, it’s easier to use one product than two.
So there you go. Although all eight steps at the same time probably aren’t feasible, taking on just a few should help you maximize efficiency. If you can integrate most of them into your life, you’ll achieve a hassle-free beauty routine in no time.
