Keeping up with the latest trends is tiring. There’s always a new hairstyle, dress code or makeup look that’s taking over the fashion world. But should you adhere to everything that the models are strutting down the catwalk? I say no! Below is a list of makeup faux pas to avoid if you don’t want to be caught up in yet another crazy trend.
Fake Brows
Celebrities and regular folk alike have been plucking away at their eyebrows for quite some time. But now there’s a trend that involves shaving off the entire eyebrow and drawing it on. Yes, you heard that correctly.
It began with Youtubers and makeup artists who wanted to show off their creative skills, but now it’s crept into everyday beauty looks.
Fake brows is a trend to stay away from, as eyebrow hair is sensitive, and once it’s shaved or plucked away, it might not grow back. Plus, I’m sure that nature gave you those brows for a reason – because you rock them!
Shaving your eyebrows off might sound appealing because you can finally draw on the brows you’ve always wanted. But what about when you fancy a makeup-free day? If you don’t want to catch a glimpse of Mona Lisa every time you pass a mirror, you should (literally) keep your hair on.
Orange Foundation
This trend has been around for a while, and although it isn’t as popular anymore, it’s still one to avoid. It involves using a foundation that is several shades darker than your natural skin tone to create a tanned look. All it does, however, is make your face completely orange while the rest of your body is a different color.
I know that the tanned, beach-ready look is super trendy, but you don’t need to fake your skin tone. Use the right shade of foundation for your skin and add a bit of highlighter to really make your face glow – all the glamor without looking like a satsuma.
Rainbow Everything
This trend emerged from drag queens and Pride supporters who wanted to go all out with their makeup. While I love the idea behind it, the final product is not all sunshine and rainbows.
Bright eyeshadows that aren’t blended in can give off a clown appearance and I’m pretty sure that isn’t the look you want to go for!
Social media set the trend for this, with aspiring makeup artists and influencers sharing their rainbow makeup snaps. And when done correctly, it can look good (in photos anyway).
But it isn’t easy to combine the right colors together and avoid looking like you stepped out of a 90s rave. Plus, the amount of different colors and lipsticks shades you would need is just exhausting. Some things should be left to the makeup artists.
Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge
If you haven’t already heard of this challenge, it was inspired by fashion icon, Kylie Jenner, as the name suggests. Aspiring to look like the lip-kit mogul, people put a small bottle or jar over their lips and suck out the air to create a vacuum. The end result is supposedly plumper and fuller lips.
Not only is this trend ridiculous, but it is also extremely dangerous! Most attempts resulted in painful, swollen lips that took a while to heal.
Fuller lips may look more desirable but remember that there is a lot of makeup and occasionally surgical procedures involved. Instead, try opting for a lip liner that you can apply to the outer lips to give them a more plump appearance. Even wearing a bold lipstick can make your lips stand out, without damaging them in the pursuit of this crazy trend!
Fashion Forward or…
The fashion industry is endless with its creativity, but don’t fall prey to these trends. You are better off riding out these crazy makeup looks without joining in. You’ll look back at photos and be thankful you didn’t try any of these whacky ideas.
